Our Story
ACK Ena comprehensive is a public school that was established in 1920 as an initiative by the Anglican Church of Kenya missionaries of Kagaari South Embu in Kenya. Though the School was an initiative of Anglican Church, the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Education is charged with the administration of all the public school and hence the church no longer has a role.
Christianity was brought by CMS (Anglican) missionaries who set up a camp at Kigari in 1910. They started schools, health clinics, and helped with agricultural concerns in addition to evangelism and starting churches. So Ena Primary school was a beneficiary of the early education of the Missionaries. This has greatly improved the literacy level in Embu District to above the average for the nation.

Location
The school is located along Embu- Meru Highway, in Embu County which lies some 120 kilometres north east of Nairobi, on south-eastern side of Mount Kenya in a county that covers an area of 2,818 square kilometres. The county borders Tharaka Nithi to the North, Kitui to the east and Machakos to the south, Murang’a to the south west and Kirinyaga to the West. Also known as Kirimari, meaning top of the hill in Kiembu (native language), Embu town serves as the county’s administrative capital. Most of the people in Embu and around the Primary school rely heavily on small scale farming to support their families which is barely sufficient to provide for all the basic needs for the families.
Our
Population
The school has an average population of 546 Learners; 268 being boys while 279 are girls. The school has 14 teachers employed by Government of Kenya through the Teachers Service Commission. Since inception, parents had the responsibility of building all the facilities until the year 2002 when the Government of Kenya introduced free education policy in the Country which made many citizens believe that the Government will provide funds for building the necessary infrastructure. The Government through the Ministry of Education only provided minimal funds for Tuition and hence the infrastructure of the school has been deteriorating to deplorable conditions.
